Janet K. Rose, Mediator, PCDM
I am an attorney-turned-mediator/peacemaker. I believe in the transformative potential of mediation and work best with parties who need to maintain communication with one another after the main conflicts are resolved. Thus, I work primarily with parents and families in conflict over custody, visitation, decision-making, religious and school choice issues. I am also trained as a parenting coordinator/decision-maker for higher conflict cases. I offer a non-judgmental environment that is trauma-informed, LGBTQ-friendly and lifestyle aware. After years of working as a mediator in both private practice and as a volunteer for government agencies, Janet has learned quite a bit about how to resolve conflict and how to minimize it in the future. Direct engagement of the conflict, allowing each side to have a chance to be heard and evaluating options thoughtfully leads to better results and is more empowering than simply passing numbers back and forth. The facilitated nature of mediation is a good way to make collaborative and conscious decisions and set the tone for lasting and peaceful change. After years of experience working with conflict as an advocate she opened Rose Solutions in 2011 to follow her passion and bring positive change into the lives of families and communities. She brings over ten years of experience working in high-stakes, high conflict situations including: contract negotiator for a multi-national environmental engineering firm, education reform lobbyist working with the Colorado legislature and Guardian ad liem representing kids in court. As much as Janet enjoys peacemaking, she also loves educating small groups and organizations about how to engage in conflict authentically to create peaceful change. She has presented before a wide range of audiences ranging from professional groups (e.g., Denver Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, National Hispanic Institute and COVA) to weekend relationship-centered retreats (e.g., Beyond the Bedroom and PolyLiving). When not resolving conflict for others, she is a proud geek mom sharing her love of Wonder Woman, historical fiction, Star Trek, Battlestar, Jane Austen, Whedonverse, gaming and Doctor Who with my kids (just to name a few). She goes to the movies and supports the thriving arts community. She enjoys tribal fusion belly dance and is a novice gardener. Janet gravitates toward social justice issues and thus can be found on the boards of the GLBT Bar Association and the Creative Arts Alliance in Denver (supporting arts education for Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academcy). Janet holds a B.A. in Sociology (minor in Political Science) from Loyola University Chicago and a J.D. from University of Denver.
