MEMBERSHIP FAQ'S

Hey- I'm Julie! I'm not scary like a lawyer or heavy like a therapist. I'm just a woman who's gone thorugh the trials and tribulations of a divorce.

I thought I knew what I was doing and thought I had all the resources, but now that I know SO much more, I see things I really would have done differently.

I knew how much easier it could have been if I had all the information I needed all in one place, and so I created the Untangle The Knot Membership as the resource I WISH I had.

I got divorced 6 years ago now and we are both really happy in our new found lives. I'm wishing the same for you!

It's my mission to help others through this process so they can see how amazing and freeing life can be on the other side of divorce.

You sure could. Which would you get?

There are an abundance of books out there. I've read a bunch of them. There's books with incorrect info, out of date info and incomplete info. That's why I read them all, got you the best info and put it in Untangle The Knot Memerbship in an EASY, digestible and organized way.

The best part of Membership is having all you need in ONE place, staying organized AND the community and support you'll get. NO book can give you that!

We welcome both men and women in our membership. We try to keep a mature crowd eager to do divorce maturely and quickly so both can move on with their lives in a really healthy and loving way.

You're going to love this so much you will not want to cancel!

There's SO much value to staying in as new issues will come up and you will continually need support even in post divorce. We recommend stay from the time you start thinking about divorce until about 1-2 years after.

If you do decide to cancel, we have a no questions asked, cancel anytime policy!

You sure can!

We do have a Private Facebook group, but you are in no way required to join and participate in that aspect. If you would like to do so with an alias Facebook account, just email us after you join with your account information so we can allow you entrance.

Yes!

We give you much broader and much more comprehensive information than a lawyer can. We want to help you with the whole picture and all areas of your life that will be impacted.

You won't have to waste all your time and money at a lawyers office with basic questions. They are going to ask you about your decisions, and we help you to make them.

DIVORCE FAQ'S

It depends. A do-it-yourself divorce can cost just a few hundred dollars, while a nasty one can cost in excess of $100K. That said, the average is about $10 – $20K. If you both approach it amicably and surround yourself with the right support – you can probably get through the process for a few thousand dollars. Most Untangle The Knot clients end up in this range as they are armed with the information they need, saving thousands of dollars on unnecessary legal fees by working with their attorney most effectively and by preventing mistakes.

Each state has its own guidelines for waiting periods, but typically can happen as early as 60 days. It really depends on how organized and informed you and your spouse are, and how well you are able to work together to reach a settlement. Nasty divorces can not only drain your savings, but it can also take a year or greater to resolve.

Child support is a mathematical formula based upon income and the number of overnights spent with each parent. Each state has a worksheet available for you to calculate. Each state also has guidelines for spousal support (alimony). This is not a hard and fast rule and is intended to help the spouse with lower earnings gain the skills needed to be able to eventually support themselves.

The question is should you keep the house? One of the biggest mistakes made during divorce is keeping the family home when it can’t truly be afforded.

Splitting your financial life is tough and divorce is an equation. In order to keep the home, you will likely need to buy your spouse out. This usually happens with trading cash, retirement or support payments. Homes are expensive and time consuming to maintain. Think about when a new roof is needed or living on that corner lot when it snows and the lawn needs to be mowed each week. Do you have the time and cash to handle the maintenance after you’ve given away your cash to keep the home? Financial planners often note this as the number one financial mistake people make in divorce.

Most states have a guideline for equally sharing parenting time (formerly known as custody). This can depend on the children’s ages and each parent's ability to care for the children. States will default to what they believe is in the best interests of the kids.

This is probably the hardest and one of the most important conversations you’ll have. The words you choose when telling your kids about your divorce will begin to shape their emotions and mindset. There are best practices to use depending on the ages of the kids and we have scripts available with your purchase of Untangle The Knot. Make every effort to tell the kids with your spouse and both of you reinforce how much you each love the kids and will always be there for them no matter what.

As a parent, this is the heartbreaking concern that keeps us up at night. Your kids will be okay! It will hurt and be an adjustment, but there are proven things you can do to help ease their transition and help them heal. The most important thing you can do is to take good care of yourself so you are strong enough to help your kids.

Going through divorce is similar to grieving after someone dies. People will typically start with a feeling of denial. “This can’t really be happening to me!”. This is followed by feelings of anger, sadness, and willingness to do anything to get back together. Finally, you’ll reach acceptance and be on the other side of the pain. It will take time to work through your emotions, but I promise you’ll get through it! There are ways to heal from the pain faster and in a healthier way, and we share many approaches for you with your purchase of Untangle The Knot.

You’ve decided to leave. This is going to take some serious mental preparation. This is a person you loved, and likely still love. This could be the mother or father of your children. How he or she receives the news depends on how he or she feels about your marriage.

Do’s
Find a time you won’t be interrupted
Be respectful
Be calm
Use “I” statements
Use neutral language
Communicate that there isn’t a need to resolve everything right now

Don’t
Say it in anger
Yell or name-call
Make assumptions for how he or she feels
Leave a note or text
Place blame
Discuss divorce proposals

Divorce is the second most stressful life event anyone can endure. Keeping your mind, body and spirit healthy and grounded is the best thing you can do for yourself. The challenge is, this is likely the last thing you care about right now! Getting enough sleep, at least a little exercise and some healthy food to fuel your body will go a long way toward keeping your mind clear and your mood balanced.

Research shows that divorce may have a negative effect on your physical and mental health, as any chronically stressful situation would. Your goal is not to become one of these statistics. Physical health encompasses everything from physical fitness to overall well-being. There are three key elements of physical health: Nutrition, Exercise and Sleep. Each of these work together to ensure that you are firing on all cylinders and have the energy to make clear-headed decisions while feeling confident and healthy. If you are considering divorce, your physical health and well-being should be one of your top priorities. The irony is that this may be the last thing on your mind.

Let’s face it; divorce could be considered an endurance event. And just as you would prepare your body for an endurance event by planning and training, you also need to prepare your body to withstand the rigors of the potential reality of divorce–ensuring you are strong enough to undertake the challenges you may encounter along the way. Whether or not divorce is your eventual outcome, improving your physical health will benefit you in many positive ways.

It is highly recommended to understand what level your physical health is at now so that you know what areas you need to focus on. Then you can start taking positive steps to improve your eating habits, boost your exercise levels and sleep better at night.
